Middle-order batsman R Rahul hit three magnificent sixes in the last couple of overs to help St Joseph’s (State) High School to win the Dell-KSCA district-level inter-school cricket tournament here on Sunday.

Playing at the Gangothri Glades Stadium, Rahul bagged the man of the match award for his splendid 46 runs.

His unfinished 63-run fifth wicket partnership with captain K R Yatin (18 not out) sealed the match in favour of St Joseph’s High School.

Batting first, P Prajwal and S Shashank got Sadvidya High School to a blistering start by scoring 68 and 46 runs respectively.

Adding 93-runs for the opening wicket, the duo helped their team set a target of 199. Shashank K (29 not out) and Prahlad Raj (22) were the other significant contributors.

Chasing the target, Nithin Nayak R, who later was presented the man of the series award, hammered 13 fours enroute to his 84 runs in just 66 balls for St Joseph’s High School.

Later, Rahul scored the required runs with five balls to spare in an exciting contest.

Needing 20 runs in last two overs, Rahul scored 14 runs in the 29th over, which turned the tide (two sixes and a brace) and enabled his team to finish the match in style.Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary Javagal Srinath distributed the prizes to the winners.

KSCA Mysore zone chairman Ashvini Ranjan, convenor S Vijayprakash and others were present.

Final: Sadvidya HS: 199 for six in 30 overs (P Prajwal 68, S Shashank 46, K Shashank 29 not out) lost to St Joseph’s HS (State) 202 for four in 29.1 overs (Nithin Nayak R 84, Rahul R 46 not out). Man of the Match: R Rahul.

Special prizes: Best Batsman: Akash (St Joseph’s HS); Best Bowler: Nandish (St John’s HS, Mandya); Man of the Series: Nithin Nayak R (St Joseph’s HS).

Semi-final: St Joseph’s High School (State) 139 in 29.4 overs (Akash 42, Suman 32, Chandrashekar three for 45, Arun Monappa two for 17, Shashank Bharadwaj two for 14) bt Gynanaganga High school 130 in 30 overs (Suman three for 33, Rahul R three for 23).

Sadvidya HS, Mysore, 155 for six in 30 overs (Shashank S 50, Shashank Simha 25, Nandish two for 10) bt St John’s HS, Mandya, 92 in 16 overs (Nandish 62, Niranjan four for 20, Shashank two for 49, Shashank Simha two for 23).
