Elaborate security to ensure safe Independence Day

With the low-intensity explosion at the District Court Complex in the city on August 1, is still fresh in minds of the people, The district administration is taking no chance on security arrengements for the Independence Day.

All arrangements to beef up security are in place, particularly at the Bannimantap Grounds, where the district adminstration has organised the 70th Independence Day celebration on August 15.

It may be recalled that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other investigation agencies have suspected that the explosion could be the handiwork of a terrorist outfit as the explosion was similar to the ones reported recently from the court premises in Kollam, Kerala, and Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

On the occasion of I-Day, the police have made elaborate security arrangements at the Bannimantap Grounds and other parts of the city. The police will depute one Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), two assistant commissioners of police (ACP), nine inspectors, 35 sub-inspectors, 180 constables, 100 home guards as a precautionary measure at parts of the city, including the grounds.

“Besides, striking forces like 10 mounted police, five Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) battalions, 30 commandos and additional security personnel will be deputed. A door frame metal detector (DFMD) and hand-held metal detector (HHMD) will be placed at each entry gate of the grounds,” said DCP (Law and Order) H T Shekar.

The DCP said, “Security measures will be beefed up at important and sensitive places, particularly, the venues where the tri-colour would be hoisted. Security will be upped at Subbarayanakere (Freedom Fighters Park) and other places in the city.”

A host of dignitaries, including PWD and District in-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait, MPs R Dhruvanarayan, C S Puttaraju and Pratap Simha, Mayor B L Bhyrappa and other elected representatives would attend the event at Bannimantap Grounds at 9 am.

It is mandatory for the government officials in the city to attend the function. The district administration has organised cultural events at Kalamandira at 6 pm on the same day. MLA Vasu and Mayor B L Bhyrappa will attend the event.

No plastic flags

The authorities have issued a strict warning against sale and use of plastic and paper flags. The district administration has asked the people to use flags made out of cloth only.
