“Rather than the government, private organisations and public at large are coming to the rescue of flood victims. The government is enjoying publicity without doing any work in the affected areas,” he said at a function to despatch relief materials to the people of rain ravaged districts in North Karnataka, here recently.

The state government is falsely claiming of taking up relief work on a war footing basis, whereas the ground reality is quite different. The ruling establishment has not all responded to the needs of the people in distress.

“One cannot expect social progress from a government, which has no concern for the hardship of its subjects”, Bachegowda said. He disclosed that 100 quintals of rice and cash of more than Rs five lakh in addition to other materials have been collected from Chikkaballapur taluk alone.

The taluk and district units of JD(S) together sent 200 quintals of rice, cash of Rs 15 lakh, articles of daily use from the City, recently.

Former minister K M Krishna Reddy, Zilla Panchayat member G R Narayanaswamy, Komul director K V Nagaraj, City Municipal Council president M Prakash, JD(S) district president Rajanna were part of the team that travelled to North Karnataka for distribution of the relief materials.
