Kodagu celebrates Cariappa's birth anniversary

Various eminent personalities including retired army officers, government officials and political leaders offered floral tributes to memorial of Cariappa at his residence ‘Roshanara’. Meanwhile, students sang patriotic songs to honour the hero of yesteryears.

In-charge Deputy Commissioner K M Chandregowda offered floral tributes to the memorial on behalf of the district administration. Cariappa’s daughter Nalini Cariappa, daughter-in-law Meena Cariappa, police officers, NCC cadets, students of Bharatiya Vidyabhavana, Kodagu Vidyalaya and FMC college paid tributes to Cariappa. Students of Kodagu Vidyalaya sung bhajans to pay homage.

Nalini Cariappa distributed the prize to the winner of the essay competition on Field Marshal K M Cariappa on the occasion. Student of the St Joseph’s School P D Arpitha bagged the first place.

Birth anniversary programme was also organised at the Field Marshal K M Cariappa College. Alumni Association President Major K K Devaiah, Principal Dr Pushpa Kuttanna and others offered floral tributes to Cariappa.

Meanwhile, City Municipality President H M Nandakumar garlanded the statue of Field Marshal K M Cariappa at the at Sudarshan Circle. Former President P D Ponnappa, Kodava Sahitya Academy President Rani Machaiah and others too offered tributes on the occasion.
