'Kodagu likely to get Medical College'

Chief Minister has promised to give his nod for the setting up of Medical College in Kodagu district, said District-in-Charge Minister M P Appachu Ranjan.

Speaking after inaugurating the dialysis unit and ICU at District hospital in Madikeri on Wednesday, he said the doctors should respond to the needs of patients.

MLC M C Nanaiah said that all efforts will be made to upgrade the hospital by providing facilities.

Zilla panchayat standing committee on education and health president Kanthi Belliappa in the absence of the dialysis unit and ICU the patients from Kodagu district were sent to other districts for treatment.

Free treatment

Those who are suffering from kidney failure will be benefited with the dialysis centre. The dialysis unit has six beds. Those who are possessing BPL ration cards will be given free treatment.

Those who do not possess BPL ration cards will have to pay a sum of Rs 350 to avail the treatment.

Retired medical officer Dr Palekar, who had strove for the setting up of the unit was felicitated.Deputy Commissioner Dr Shivashankar, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer  Anjanappa, District Surgeon Dr Muthappa were present.
