'List property tax defaulters'

He was reviewing the balance sheet of various departments with regard to utilisation of government funds in Kolar on Wednesday. The Kolar City Municipal Council has collected only Rs 40 lakh as property cess from Rs 3.53 crore.

Unlike the old layouts, the people living in new layouts are wary of paying their tax, hence is the delay, said CMC Commissioner Ramdas.

Though the Urban Development Project unit’s director promised to take measures, Ravindra warned that stringent measures must be taken to collect the tax. At the Kolar Gold Fields City Municipal Council Rs one crore property tax has been collected from the total Rs 5.39 crore. The property tax in BGML layout alone amounts to Rs 1.75 crore. Commissioner Yarrappa told the meeting that since the residents have moved the court against property tax revision, the tax collection process is slow.

Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board Executive Engineer Venkatesh told the former chief secretary that the work Yaragol bridge to supply drinking water to 45 villages has not yet been initiated following a land dispute with the Forest Department. Replying to this, Ravindra said that the problem will be reviewed at the government level.
He directed the district administration to make rainwater harvesting mandatory in every buildings.

Later, speaking to the mediapersons, he said the government is framing Urban Development police and it will be ready soon. Deputy Commissioner N Prabhakar, Assistant Commissioner R S Peddappaiah and City Municipal Council Commissioner Ramdas were present.
