Rain continues to batter Kodagu

After a brief lull, monsoon intensified in Kodagu district since Friday night.

The rain threw normal life out of gear in the district. The rivers, rivulets and ponds are overflowing.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration had declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Saturday.

The incessant rain has affected the people of Galibeedu, Mandalpatti, Suntikoppa, Chettalli and Thalathmane.

Tourists faced inconvenience after water started flowing on a bridge at Mandalpatti. A huge tree was uprooted at Mangaladevi Nagara.

The kalyani at Omkareshwara Temple in Madikeri town in full for the second time during the season. As a result, the water has inundated the temple premises.

The Triveni Sangama at Bhagamandala is also full, following heavy rain. The bathing ghat is also inundated.

Vehicles waded on Bhagamandala-Napoklu stretch till noon. Later, the movement of vehicles was suspended on the stretch.

Talacauvery has been cut off from the rest of the district. A rafting boat was used to ferry the devotees to Bhagandeshwara Temple. The water level in river Cauvery has increased drastically at Bolibane on Napoklu-Moornadu stretch.

Lakshmanatheertha river is in spate in South Kodagu. The river water has inundated Harihara, Balyamandoor, Kanooru, Kottageri, Balele, Nitturu and Jagale. Even Keerehole is overflowing at Gonikoppa, Nalluru and Kirugooru.

Paddy fields have been inundated at Begoorukolli. The district administration has warned the villagers residing on the banks of the river to move to safer areas.

A house was damaged in a landslide at Nagammanamanti in Mullusoge Gram Panchayat jurisdiction near Kushalnagar.

The district had incurred a loss of Rs 14 crore following heavy rain in the second week of June.

A large number of tourists have thronged the district to enjoy the beauty of monsoon. All the homestays are full in the district.
