‘Save Kodagu’ rally on Dec 8

Last Updated 28 November 2018, 17:47 IST

Residents of Kodagu and many conservationists are joining hands and hosting the “Save Kodagu” rally on December 8.

The rally is being held to save River Cauvery and Kodagu from increasing urbanisation and infrastructure works.

“We are opposing the two rail projects and the four multi-lane national highway roads passing through Kodagu for which over four lakh trees will be axed. We are making people and the government aware that River Cauvery is the lifeline of over 80 million people and over 70% of the KRS water is from River Cauvery alone. We are trying to put pressure on the government to save the river and Kodagu, which is an integral part of the Western Ghats,” said Col C P Muttanna, coordinator of the rally.

People from Mysuru, Hassan, Kodagu, Bengaluru, Chickmagaluru and Kerala are expected to participate
in the rally. Earlier, a similar rally was held in February in Mysuru voicing against the Talacheri railway line. The people of Kodagu have also filed PILs in the Karnataka High Court against the infrastructure projects.
