The concern of farmers to protect environment and to develop greenery in Kodagu is model for others. The Government will chalk out plans to contain wild elephant menace in the district.

Writers Abdul Pasha, Somashekar Rooli, Dr Anilkumar Muguli, RFO M S Chinnappa and others were present.

In a session on rift between elephants and human being and environment, writer Bharadwaj Kanive said “there is an imbalance in nature as we have occupied the land belonging to wild animals in Kodagu.”

He said “in the name of dam, road construction, we have acquired land which was once considered as elephant corridors. Owing to the scarcity of land to move around freely inside the forest and in search of food and water, elephants have started attacking human habitat and destroying crops.”

Though government has chalked out various plans to control wild elephant menace,  it was not possible to check the menace even to this day.
Zilla Panchayat former President K P Chandrakala said solar fence and trenches must be laid to check wild elephant menace.
