Row over Kateel’s tweet

Dakshina Kannada sitting MP Nalin Kumar Kateel’s tweet comparing Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi has drawn a lot of flak.

On Thursday, at 1.27 pm, Kateel on his twitter handle @nalinkateel had tweeted in Kannada “Godse killed just one, Ajmal Kasab killed 72 and Rajiv Gandhi killed 17,000. Now you tell who is the gruesome murderer?.”

The tweet was retweeted and liked by many. However, a large section of netizens had criticised tweet for making such a derogatory remark.

On Friday, at 12.03 pm, Kateel tendered an apology by tweeting, “I have observed that people have been expressing their anguish over my tweet. I tender my apology if anyone is hurt from my tweet. I had no intention to hurt anyone. I have withdrawn the tweet soon after realising that it had hurt people. Let us end this discussion.”

Nalin Kumar Kateel has identified himself on his official twitter handle as Chowkidar Nalinkumar Kateel.
