BJP district General Secretary Balakrishna Kalagi (42) died on spot in a freak accident between his minivan and a lorry, at Talattamane-Mekeri road on Tuesday night.
The accident took place while he was travelling on Mekeri-Bhagamandala route towards NH 275. Balakrishna was returning to his home in Sampaje after taking part in a party campaign for upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
He has served as the president of Sampaje gram panchayat. Known for his organising skills in BJP, he was actively involved in party activities for many years. During his tenure as the GP president, the gram panchayat won awards for cleanliness and best administration.
Balakrishna’s relatives and admirers gathered in front of the district hospital mortuary where his mortal remains were placed.
