Children’s Park gets facelift in Mangaluru

Renovated Children’s Park at Police Lane in Pandeshwara.

The Children’s Park at Police Lane in Pandeshwara, which was crying for attention, has finally received a facelift.

The Ramakrishna Mission under its Swaccha Mangaluru campaign had taken up the refurbishment of the park, spread over 2,500 square feet.

With this the children of policemen can enjoy the facilities at the park. Paintings adorn the walls of the park to make it attractive for children. The messages on socially relevant topics also adorn the walls now.

Playing equipment for children were in pathetic condition preventing children from using it. However, they have been replaced with the new ones. In the past, the park had become haven for beggars and drunkards. Interlocks have been laid inside the park and ornamental plants have also been planted. Seating arrangements have been made at the park.

The slide in the park has been repaired and painted. The park was developed 20 years ago.

The renovated park was inaugurated on Sunday by Superintendent of Police Lakshmi Prasad.

Speaking on the occasion, SP said that he would ask the inmates of the Police Lane to maintain the park on a regular basis. “A large number of people taking part in Swaccha Mangaluru campaign every week shows the culture of Mangaluru. People from all walks of life have been taking part in the campaign. The government spends crores of rupees for the public health care.”

Ramakrishna Mission has been spreading the message on cleanliness, thereby contributing towards public health. Ramakrishna Mutt President Swami Jithakamanandaji said, “We have to develop a mindset not to throw the garbage outside the house.”
