Complete work on retaining wall: Sa Ra Mahesh

District-in-Charge Minister Sa Ra Mahesh directed the officials to discharge their duties responsibly.

Subcommittees have been constituted to tackle any eventualities during monsoon, he added.

Speaking at a meeting on Saturday, he called upon the officials to respond to the people. Strict action would be initiated against those who unnecessarily create a problem for the public.

The officials should ensure that there is no water crisis in the district. As the monsoon is fast approaching, officials should not go on leave without the consent of the deputy commissioner, said Mahesh.

He said that compensation has already been distributed to the families affected by the natural calamity. A few families who have a row over Jamma and Bane land are yet to get the compensation.

The minister directed CMC Commissioner Ramesh to take up the work on the retaining wall near old private bus stand at the earliest. There are complaints on potholes on the road following the UGD works in Madikeri. The dug up road should be repaired at the earliest. No road should be dug till the end of Monsoon.

The minister asked officials from the PWD, Zilla Panchayat Engineering Division, National Highway, Minor Irrigation and Major Irrigation to complete the pending works at the earliest. An amount of Rs 5 crore was sanctioned for the construction of a retaining wall near the district complex on Mangaluru road. An additional Rs 2 crore would be released at the earliest. The work on the retaining wall should be taken up at the earliest.

Further, he said there is poor quality of work taken up by Nirmithi Kendra. Good quality work must be ensured, he directed the engineer.

Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy, Superintendent of Police Dr Suman D Pennekar, Zilla Panchayat CEO K Lakshmi Priya were present.
