A woman in Mangaluru lost Rs 16.69 lakh to a man, whom she got acquainted through Facebook and who promised to send foreign currency and expensive gifts.

The woman, Reshma Ferrao, told the Cybercrime police that she realised that she had been conned after she failed to get the gifts.

Reshma accepted the friend request from one Jack Colman on May 3. The duo was interacting frequently. During their chat, he reportedly told Reshma that he is sending 20,000 pounds and valuable gifts to her.

On May 9, Reshma received a call from another man, who, in turn, informed her that her parcel reached Delhi International Airport and she can collect it by paying a fine and also threatened to arrest her if she failed to collect it. Fearing the arrest, Reshma transferred the amount to the account of the caller.
