Last Updated 24 April 2019, 16:56 IST

“Thespian actor Rajkumar played a pivotal role in the implementation of Gokak report. But for Raj’s active involvement in ‘Gokak movement’, it wouldn’t have been a reality,” said Kannada Sahitya Parishat district president Lokesh Sagar.

He was speaking during the 91st birth anniversary celebrations of Rajkumar, organised by the district administration at Old Fort Hall in Madikeri on Wednesday.

“Rajkumar had contributed immensely to the development of Kannada language. Despite carving a niche for himself in acting, he was also well versed in music and yoga. Though his school education was limited to class three, his knowledge was par excellence. His songs, laden with pure feelings and his Kannada speaking style, explored the beauty of the language.”

He further said that Raj, who started his career with the film ‘Bedara Kannappa’ in 1954, did not look back since then. Films ‘Bangarada Manushya’, ‘Bhagyavantaru’, ‘Jeevana Chaitra’, ‘Odahuttidavaru’ and ‘Kasturi Nivasa’ became the milestones of Kannada film industry. Raj’s commitment and dedication to his work have inspired many.

Zilla Panchayat CEO K Lakshmi Priya said that the films of Rajkumar have inspired many non-Kannadigas to learn Kannada.

Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary Guduru Bhimasena said that today’s youth should take Rajkumar as a role model and should take pride in being Kannadigas.

Assistant Commissioner T Javaregowda, DySP Sundarraj and district information officer Chinnaswamy were present.
