MLA D K Shivakumar, his wife Usha and daughter Aishwarya visited Sringeri Sharada Mutt on Tuesday evening.

The family offered special prayers to the presiding deity Goddess Sharadamba, Shakti Ganapathy and Torana Ganapathy.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar said that his family had made vows before the Goddess, while he was going through a harrowing period.

Thus I am visiting the temple to fulfil the vows made by my family, he added.

“I have also prayed for the betterment of the state,” he said.

The former minister meanwhile hoped that his friend Tanveer Sait, who suffered a fatal attack recently, would recover soon. He urged the government to initiate stringent action against the accused youth.

Shivakumar refused to comment on queries related to politics.

MLA T D Rajegowda, who was accompanying Shivakumar, accused the Centre of misusing institutions such as CBI and IT department.

“The Central government has misused its power to conduct raids on the residences of senior leaders during the elections, which has caused me pain,” Rajegowda said.

After paying obeisance to pontiffs Sri Bharati Theertha Swami and Sri Vidhu Shekhara Bharati Swami at Nrisimha Mutt, Shivakumar and his family donated a cow to the Gau Shala of the Mutt, by carrying out ‘Gau Daana’ ritual.

Later, the family travelled back to Bengaluru via Mangaluru.

During his visit to Sringeri, Shivakumar was accompanied by Congress leaders Maranakoodige Nataraj, Kadturu Dinesh, Sachin Meega and others.
