Uttama Prajakeeya Party to contest from all seats

Last Updated 03 April 2019, 20:58 IST

Upendra, actor filmmaker and founder of the Uttama Prajakeeya Party, said that the party would field candidates in all 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

“The candidates for 12 constituencies have been announced already. In the remaining 16 constituencies, the names will be announced after April 7,” he stated.

The actor was addressing a press meet at the Patrika Bhavan in the city on Wednesday.

The Party was fielding Vijay Shreenivas from Dakshina Kannada constituency. Vijay owns a travel agency.

People’s Mahagathbandhan

Upendra said that he subscribed to the idea of a Mahagathbandhan of the people. “The Uttama Prajakeeya Party believes in real democracy. If an elected representative from the Party has failed to deliver his or her promises, the representative will be thrown out of the party. All the candidates have agreed to this condition before contesting the elections,” explained the actor.

“The manifesto of the party is based on the people’s aspirations,” he added.

Right to impeach

He insisted that voters be empowered with the right to impeach an elected representative if the latter’s performance was not up to the mark.

“In advanced countries, a people’s poll is conducted before commissioning a new project. The same system should be implemented in India as well. This is certainly possible, given the technological advancement in our country,” he opined and stressed, “Use of muscle and money power during elections should end.”

Upendra added that the Uttama Prajakeeya Party is a registered but non-recognised party.

“The symbol of an autorickshaw is allocated to all candidates in the fray from the party,” he informed.
