District admin for plastic-free election campaign

In an attempt to regulate the use of plastics, the District Election officers have urged the political parties not to use plastic for the Lok Sabha election campaign.

Usually, political parties use flex prints, banners, pamphlets, flags and other items made of plastic for election campaign. The officials have urged the leaders of the political parties to use eco-friendly materials for the election campaign.

The district election officials have asked all political parties and the candidates not to use plastic as materials for the election campaign. Deputy Commissioner, also District Election Officer, Abhiram G Sankar, has directed the printers to minimise the use of plastic materials and has also directed the printers to provide the details of printed materials for the election purpose.

The DC said that the printers must fill up the details in ‘B’ Form and submit it to the district administration. The printers can send the details by e-mail. The officials have created a separate mail ID for the printers to submit the details, he said.

Sankar said that the banners must contain the details of the printers, publisher and name of the agency, which manufactures them.

Ethical voting

In order to increase the polling percentage in the Lok Sabha elections and to ensure a hassle free election, the district SVEEP Committee has organised several awareness drives. According to Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer, also SVEEP Committee Chairperson, K Jyothi, the percentage of polling is little less in the urban areas compared to rural Mysuru. The voters should exercise their right to strengthen the democracy and the society. All eligible people should cast their votes without fail, she said.

To create awareness among the people about the importance of voting, SVEEP Committee has planned several programmes. The team, led by Child Development Officer Manjula Patil, visited Kirloskar Electric Company at Belvadi Industrial Area and conducted an awareness programme on voting. The team members demonstrated the polling devices – Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT). More that 150 employees of the company attended the awareness programme.

The officials said, “Awareness drives will be conducted across the district to educate the people about the functioning of the devices.”

In addition, the District Election officials have formed Static Surveillance Teams at the police checkposts across the district. The team members will educate and encourage the people and tourists to cast their votes. They will also highlight about ethical voting.
