Order CBI probe into Manippady report: BJP

Last Updated 26 October 2018, 12:19 IST

The BJP will launch a state-wide agitation if the government fails to order a CBI probe into the findings of the Anwar Manippady report on encroachment of Wakf properties in the state.

Addressing a press meet on Thursday, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Kota Srinivas Poojary said Wakf Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan, who had made an assurance in the Upper House of a CBI probe, made a U-turn due to pressure from senior Congress leaders.

Former chairman of Karnataka State Minority Commission Anwar Manippady had submitted the report to the government in March 2012, when the BJP was in power.

The report had charged that Wakf properties to the tune of Rs two lakh crore had been encroached and had named several state and national Congress leaders. “Khan gave an assurance during the budget session that the government does not mind ordering a CBI probe if there was truth in the findings of the report. He backtracked succumbing to pressure from Congress leaders,” Poojary said.
