Pedalling his way to spread awareness

For Raase Rajan, riding a bicycle has been a life changing experience as he has already pedalled 21,000 kms to spread awareness about the importance of saving fuel and protecting the environment.

Raase Rajan, a resident of Salem, Tamil Nadu, has taken out a cycle jatha across the country. He has set a target of pedalling 41,000 kilometres and has already completed 21,000 kms. He began his journey on October 2, 2017, and has set the target of completing the journey on October 2, next year. He has so far covered Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Speaking to DH, 40-year-old Rajan said, he has been using the cycle as a mode to create awareness among people about minimum use of fuel to protect the environment. He has a board on the cycle with slogans ‘use cycle, save fuel, save nature’. He stresses on using cycle as a mode of transport to save fuel as well as protect the environment.

“I wanted to achieve something in life since my young age. I did not get married, as it may hinder by ambition to achieve the target. When doctors told me that I was diabetic, I came to know that cycling helps in controlling the disease. Then I decided to cycle across the country to spread the message as well as to keep fit,” he said.
