Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address farmers in the city on the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme) on Saturday.

This will be Modi’s first official visit to the city. Last year, he had made a brief stopover at Sambra airport in Belagavi on his way to Kolhapur.

The prime minister will address the farmers of the region and explain to them the benefits of the Fasal Bima Yojana, BJP sources said. The programme has been organised on the premises of Angadi Institute of Technology and Management on Savgaon Road, where a large number of farmers from North Karnataka, South Maharashtra and Goa are expected to gather. After arriving at the airport, Modi will reach the programme venue by a chopper. The area has been sensitised and tight security arrangements have been made for the event, the organisers said.
