Governor Vajubhai Vala has appointed S C Ramesh as the new vice-chancellor of Hampi Kannada University for a period of three years.
Hailing from Vokkaliga community, Prof Ramesh, a native of Sarala village, Thirthahalli taluk in Shivamogga district, has been serving at the Hampi Kannada University ever since its inception. He has served as Registrar (Evaluation) of Karnataka Folklore University (2012-2015). He returned to Hampi Kannada University and is serving as dean of Social Sciences.
The current VC, Mallika Ghanti, who is on a visit to Kolkata, will hand over the charge to Prof Ramesh, who is presently in Bengaluru, on February 22.
On September 8, 2018, Mallika Ghanti completed her term as the VC. The governor extended her term for four months, and for the second time, on January 9. Her term was extended third time on February 9.
