Seven killed, four injured in separate accidents

Seven people, including a Jagalur local Congress leader of Davanagere district, were killed, while four others sustained injuries in separate accidents in Chitradurga and Hassan districts on Tuesday late night and wee hours of Wednesday.

In a collision between two cars late Tuesday night at Bogalerahatti on National Highway (NH)-13, Keshav Murthy (49), Jagalur Congress Schedule Caste wing president and a resident of Bangarakkanagudda in Davanagere district and his relatives Nagamma (41) and Radhika (22), both residents of Sidlipur in Bhadravathi taluk and Kavya (20), Shivamogga were killed on the spot.

According to the police, Murthy was driving his car to drop the trio at Chitradurga bus stand when the accident occurred near Krishi Nagar. A speeding Murthy lost control over his car which hit another car coming in the opposite direction. After the collision, Murthy’s car hit a truck and halted.

Nagamma, Radhika and Murthy were killed on the spot, while Kavya was rushed to the district hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, said the police.

Nagamma and three others had gone to attend car festival at Bangarakkanagudda. Murthy was speeding as his relatives were in hurry to catch buses to reach their natives.

In a separate accident during wee hours of Wednesday on NH- 206 at Devarahalli gate near Arsikere, three people were killed, while four others were injured in a collision between a KSRTC bus and a van.

The deceased have been identified as Rukhaiya (19), Mohammed Hussein (23) and Mazeeba (45), all residents of Koratagere, Tumakuru district. The injured Mohammed Ghouse, (65), Samira Banu, (45), Iyaz Ahmed, (30) and Sameena Taj (26) are being treated at Nanjappa Hospital in Shivamogga, said the police.

According to the Arsikere rural police, the victims were travelling to Shivamogga from Koratagere when the accident occurred. The driver felt drowsy for a while, failed notice the bus in the opposite direction and hit it.
