McGann Hospital in Shimoga, the district hospital so far, was made the teaching hospital of Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences, recently.

Meanwhile, State government has upgraded the general hospital in Shikaripur from 50 to 150 beds and has declared it district hospital, now.

An order to shift the medical, para-medical and technical staff including the district surgeon at McGann Hospital to the new district hospital was issued on September 26.
The new hospital will also have the additional post of resident medical officer.

CM makes volte-face
The chief minister’s firm denial in this regard may just mean the opposite, which was proved right in the case of his son’s candidature for Lok Sabha election.
A similar volte-face from the chief minister is expected with regard to the formation of Shikaripur district, though he has vehemently declined.
