Skies open up in Koppal, Raichur districts

Heavy rains battered Koppal district for most part of the day on Wednesday.

There was drizzling in the morning and rain gained momentum by noon. It rained incessantly till 3 pm. Stormwater drains across the town overflowed affecting movement of vehicles.

Rain water gushed into farmlands in Bisarahalli, Hiresindogi, Kataraki and Alavandi villages of the taluk. The villages in Yalaburga taluk also received good rains. 

Raichur

The district received heavy rains from Tuesday night till Wednesday morning. Raichur taluk recorded a rainfall of 360 mm followed by Manvi taluk (127.6 mm), Sindhanur (122.6 mm), Deodurg (79.8 mm) and Lingsugur (36 mm).

Yarmaras in Raichur taluk has received the highest rainfall of 81.8 mm.

Houses in low-lying areas were inundated following copious rains, two days ago.

Bellary

Normal life was disrupted in Bellary as it rained throughout the day. Movement of vehicles was affected as rain water flooded the rail under bridge near Kanakadurgamma temple.

Dank weather with intermittent rain prevailed in Hoovinahadagli, Kurugod, Sandur, Hagaribommanahalli, Kottur, Kudligi, Kampli, Siruguppa.

Hospet

It rained throughout the day in Hospet taluk on Wednesday. Schoolchildren and officegoers faced inconvenience in reaching their destination as it started to rain in the morning.

Water gushed into houses in low-lying areas such as Ranipet, Patel Nagar, Basaveshwara Extension and residential areas in Bellary Road and Hampi Road. Hundreds of acres of agricultural land have been inundated in Hampi, Kamalapur, Kaddirampura, Bukkasagara, Kampli and Mariyammanahalli in Hospet taluk.

Bagalkot

Bagalkot town has received good rains in the past 24 hours. The town recorded a rainfall of 54.2 mm, followed by Bevur (51.4 mm) and Rampura (19.2 mm).

A shepherd rescued two girls who were being washed away in rain waters in Simikeri village of Bagalkot taluk.

The girls - Asha Obali and Mallavva - were returning from the school when the incident occurred. The students were treated at the local hospital, villagers said. More than 20 bicycles of students were damaged when the compound wall of Basaveshwara Primary School collapsed in Vidyagiri at Bagalkot.

Dharwad

Hubli-Dharwad received scattered rain for the whole day. The showers which started early in the morning continued till evening.

Shimoga

Moderate rain continued to lash several parts of the district, on Wednesday. Shimoga, Sagar, Thirthahalli, Shikaripur, Sorab, Bhadravathi and Sagar taluks received moderate rain. The water level in Linganamakki dam rose to 1815.35 feet against the maximum level of 1819 feet as catchment area of the dam received rainfall of 22mm. 

Belgaum 

Sky remained overcast in Belgaum district with sporadic drizzling.

Most of the district including the city received heavy rains from Monday evening till Tuesday. Belgaum taluk has received 79.3 mm of rain followed by Hukkeri taluk (55.8 mm), Ramdurg taluk (50.8 mm), Khanapur (48.1 mm), Gokak (47.4 mm) and Chikodi taluk (40.3 mm).

Yadgir

Most taluks of Yadgir district received moderate rains on Wednesday. While Yadgir town and villages in the vicinity have been receiving incessant rains, there is no trace of rain in Shahapur and Surpur taluks.
