An MP from Karnataka on Monday demanded the Centre to ensure all private banks extend financial assistance to beneficiaries under various government schemes without fail.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP from Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayana said as per the RBI guidelines, all banks have to provide financial assistance to beneficiaries under various government schemes, including for self-employment, agriculture, transportation and tourism.

However, in rural areas, most of the private banks were not keen on implementing these schemes and rural beneficiaries were deprived of the government's benefit, he said.

When these private banks were enjoying all the benefits provided by the government, they failed to do public service in rural areas, MP R Dhruvanarayana said

The government must take steps to ensure that all private banks implement the government's schemes without any excuse, he added.
