Two held for rape of foreigner in Mysore

Police swung into action soon after the foreigner lodged a complaint with the Lakshmipuram police station and arrested the accused within 12 hours of registering the complaint.

Vishwas (23) and Shrunkal Gowda (21), both from Channapatna are the arrested, police said. Though the incident occured on June 24, it came to light on Sunday when the woman approached Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal.

According to the police, the woman had arrived here on a three-month tourist visa on June 10 and rented a house in Chamarajapuram.

She met the accused in a hotel. As Vishwas knew good English he befriended the foreigner talking about tourist places and special cuisine of Mysore. He gained her confidence.
The woman was ready to board a bus to Bangalore to meet her Australian friend there on June 24 morning when Vishwas called her.

He convinced her that he was also driving to Bangalore on the same day in his car and could drop her in the capital. Unsuspecting, she accompanied Vishwas, who was with his friend Shrunkal Gowda.

Police added the accused diverted the car to a lodge in Channapatna on the pretext of meeting a person there.

Vishwas raped her, while Shrunkal also attempted a rape on her, she complained.
The team arrested the youth on Monday morning and produced them before the court.
The duo have been sent to police custody.
