Wayanad Laughing Thrush spotted in Joida forests

Noted ornithologist Dr Ranjeeth Daniel had spotted the bird in the Castle Rock forest region way back in 1988. The bird species was spotted by Prasanna Parab from Goa in the Diggi forest region of Joida recently.

The presence of these species after a gap of two decades explains the diversity of the forest region in this area. The Wayanad Laughing Thrush belongs to the Laughing Thrush family and is mostly found in North India. Rare birds like Malayan Night Heron, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, etc have also been spotted by Prasanna Parab in the Joida forests.

This region comes under the jurisdiction of Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve and is adjacent to the Molem forests of Goa. The Malabar Trogon, Grey-headed Bulbul and Ruby Throated Bulbul are found only in this forest region, says Mohanraj.
