Multiple vulnerabilities detected in Google Chrome for desktops

Google's Chrome has a huge market share of more than 68 per cent and reportedly, the browser is used by 3.45 billion-plus users worldwide. This also attracts the wrong people to prey on naive internet users.

While users are advised to exercise caution while browsing online and avoid venturing into the dark web, technology companies are also responsible for increasing the security of their browser platforms.

In the latest instance, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has flagged several security vulnerabilities for desktops in the Google Chrome app.

The security loopholes have been detected in the browser's UI and memory. Cybercriminals can exploit those issues and be able to divert internet users to compromised websites. And, they can take over the targeted systems to steal personal and financial details.

Google has acknowledged the presence of the vulnerabilities in Chrome and has rolled out a new security patch. Users are advised to update their Chrome browser to the latest versions--v133.0.6943.98/.99 for Windows, Mac and v133.0.6943.98 for Linux. It is being released in phases, so it will take a few days or a week to reach all corners of the world.

The company has also rewarded independent researchers for detecting the security vulnerabilities in the Chrome browser. A person who goes by the moniker Popax21 has received a cash prize of $55000] for finding a high-security vulnerability CVE-2025-0995 [391907159]

Others Yuki Yamamoto, Asnine and Alan Goodman too will receive the reward for detecting security issues-- CVE-2025-099 [391788835], CVE-2025-0997 [31666328] and CVE-2025-0998 [386857213], respectively.

In a related development, Google is enhancing the privacy security of people under 18 with machine learning tech for age estimation and blocking access to harmful content online.

Further, Google will offer more control to parents to curb children's screen time on Android phones and tablets so there is less distraction.
