WhatsApp introduces multiple new features, including video notes option in Channels

WhatsApp has begun rolling out an update with several new features to enhance the user experience in the messenger app.

The latest update brings a new indicator in group chat which lets users see how many people are 'Online' in real-time, right under the group name. This will allow users to directly tag them to chat.

Also, group chats get a new 'highlight notification' feature. Users will see a new ‘Notify for’ option in the settings and he/she can select ‘Highlights’ to limit notifications for @mentions, replies, and messages from saved contacts or ‘All’ to receive all notifications.

To instantly react with emojis to a message, users can now just tap '+1' to what someone else said in the chat. Currently, users need to long press and select the emoji reactions.

In the iOS version, WhatsApp can now be made the default SMS and dialer app for iPhones. To make the switch, users can go to Settings > Default Apps and select WhatsApp.

For iPhones, WhatsApp also brings pinch to zoom to see the persons on the video call more clearly. Further, Meta-owned company has upgraded its technology to make the WhatsApp video calls more reliable and stream higher quality videos.

Another notable feature coming to WhatsApp is the option to add video notes in Channels. Admins can now record and share short videos up to 60 seconds or less with followers.

Further, WhatsApp Channels will offer the option to transcribe voice notes with written summary for those who can’t listen to them.

And, Admins can share unique QR codes of his/her channel to social media platforms to increase their audience.

The new WhatsApp update is being rolled out in phases to both Android mobiles and iPhones. It will take a week or two to reach all corners of the world.
