Two-day job fair from today

Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Hassan and Chikkamagaluru district administration will organise a job fair at Hassan district stadium, on February 23 and 24, said Deputy Commissioner M K Srirangaiah.

Speaking to reporters, he said that former prime minister H D Deve Gowda will inaugurate the fair while MLA Preetham J Gowda will preside over it. PWD Minister H D Revanna, Medium and Small Scale Industries Minister K J George, Council Chairperson S L Dharme Gowda and others will also take part in the fair.

Companies from IT, BT, automobile, marketing, telecom, textile, BPO and banking industries will take part in the fair for recruiting candidates. Over 100 firms will take part. The job fair will be attended by 20,000 applicants.

To facilitate the candidates to take part in the employment mela at Hassan, free bus
services have been arranged from all taluks in Chikkamagaluru district.

All those in the age group of 18 to 35 can take part. The job aspirants must bring 20 sets of resume for the interview.

The deputy commissioner said that a special voter enrolment drive will be will held on March 2, 3, 23 and 24 in all the polling booths.

Owing to awareness programmes on voting, the number of voters has gone up by 3%. Application forms have been distributed in colleges and hostels to for those eligible to enrol for voters list.

Ready to tackle drought

Srirangaiah further said that the state government has released Rs 1 crore to Kadur taluk and Rs 50 lakh each to other taluks in Chikkamagaluru to tackle drought. The work on sinking borewells and laying pipelines is in progress. The district administration has Rs 5 crore to supply water through tankers.

In addition, the state government has released Rs 7 crore. Water is being supplied through tankers to 10 villages in Kadur taluk. The district administration has already taken four private borewells into its custody in Kadur to supply water, informed the DC.
