Will the budget fulfil C’Magaluru’s expectations?

With Chikkamagaluru district reeling under drought and natural calamity, the citizens are expecting some relief in the state budget, to be presented by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday.

Malnad was affected with heavy rain while the plateau areas in the district are reeling under drought-like situation. The people expect the state budget to fulfil their long-pending demands.

With the loss of coffee, pepper and other commercial crops, following heavy rain, the growers are anticipating the announcement of a special package for the growers.

The residents and the elected representatives have been demanding an upgrade of the district hospital to a super-speciality hospital.

With the Department of Health and Family Welfare collecting information on the district hospital, the expectations of the people are high in this regard.

Drinking water

The residents with that the budget will announce drinking water project to the plateau region covering Lakya, Sakharayapattana, Tarikere and Kadur. Already, a detailed project report (DPR) has been submitted to the government on irrigation project in the plateau region in the district. The residents hope that the DPR finds a place in the budget.

The environmentalists have been demanding a separate tourism policy to the district and there is a demand for grant for the development of religious places in Sringeri, Kalasa, and Horanadu.

The residents have been demanding the setting up of a milk union in the district to promote dairy farming.

Other demands from the district are grants for the already sanctioned government medical and engineering colleges, the announcement of Kalasa taluk, and the grant for development of an airstrip announced in the previous budget.
