A young, female motorbike enthusiast from Japan with a Twitter following of more than 20,000 followers has turned out to be a man.

The Twitter account has photos of 'her' travelling around various parts of Japan on her bike. However, in a photo posted to the account on February 11, followers noticed that in the rearview mirror of the bike, the face behind the camera was visible and was in fact a 50-year-old man.

According to Yahoo News, the man reportedly said he transformed his appearance because nobody wanted to see an 'uncle' on social media. This came to light after the Japanese media saw the fuss on Twitter and decided to investigate. The man said that he used FaceApp and Photoshop to change his appearance so that he could get more engagement on his posts.

He added, that the process was "enjoyable" as were the likes on his various posts.
