A 28-year-old man tried to kill his father in Hanumanthanagar on Saturday evening.

Santosh was upset after his father refused to give him money for gambling.

Girinagar police arrested Santosh alias Scrap Mukund, soon after. Santosh’s father Ramappa (60) is admitted to the hospital. His condition is critical, doctors said.

Ramappa is an autorickshaw driver. Of late, Santosh had taken up auto driving as his father was ageing.

However, Santosh would spend all his earnings playing cards while the father Ramappa was getting by his savings.

Santosh who is a habitual offender lost lakhs of rupees in gambling and had decided to earn it back, apparently, through gambling itself. On Saturday night, he lost Rs 1 lakh. As he did not have the amount in person, he brought his co-players to his house. Santosh then told his father to give them the money.

Neighbours help

As Ramappa refused, in a fit of rage, Santosh went into the kitchen, brought a knife and stabbed his father. Hearing Ramappa’s screams for help, neighbours rushed to the house and shifted him to the hospital.

The police have taken the statement of Ramappa’s wife as he is still unconscious, and registered an attempt to murder case.
