'Sarjapur road too narrow for heavy vehicles'

Last Updated 20 September 2018, 21:23 IST

The residents of Sarjapura urged Public Works Department (PWD) to work on a newly extended road between Muthanalur to Attibele road via Sarjapura, as it is still quite narrow for heavy traffic and is marked with potholes.

“A lot of heavy vehicles coming from the Tamil Nadu side go through Sarjapura towards Electronic city via Attibele. The 12-km road extending from Sarjapura road to Attibele is too narrow to cater to these heavy vehicles," a Sarjapura resident said.

In a letter written to PWD, Anekal office, the residents, under the banner 'Voice of Sarjapura', have raised several issues ranging from lack of footpath for pedestrians to lack of drainage system in the road causing it to flood during the monsoon. Absence of street lights in the entire stretch has made it impossible for them to commute during the night, they complained.

“Sarjapura is a peri-urban area with a steady increase in population and vehicular traffic on roads. The present road from Muthanalur to Attibele road via Sarjapura is not designed to cater to the increasing vehicular movement,” said Swapna Kumar, a member of Voice of Sarjapura. She said that the lack of street lights and presence of potholes has made the road accident-prone. “In the past one month more than five accidents have been reported on this road," she said.

A PWD official said that the potholes on the road between Muthanalur and Attibele are being filled up and it might take another four days to complete them. “The road expansion project for the same has been sanctioned by the government already and will take off in December this year. Meanwhile we are asphalting it and filling up the potholes," said the official.
