Schools in flood-hit districts get a new lease of life

Thanks to the initiative of PES Education Society University, Bengaluru, run by M R Doreswamy, seven government schools and two Anganwadi centres which suffered extensive damages in the flood-hit Bagalkot and Belagavi districts, have got a new lease of life. Academic activities in these schools were being conducted in makeshift sheds till then.

In Bagalkot district, 11 classrooms of a government school at Ontigodi village and 7 classrooms of a government school at B K Budni village in Mudhol taluk, 6 classrooms of government higher primary school at Karlakoppa village in Badami taluk have now been renovated handed and over to the Department of Public Instruction.

Four government schools in the educational district of Chikodi in Belagavi division, which includes 5 classrooms each, belonging to KPS government higher primary school at Hasare Thota in Nilaji village of Raibag taluk and government primary school of Peral Thota, Nadi Ingalgaon village, three classrooms of government higher primary school of Theerth village and 8 classrooms of the government school in Mahishawadagi village, all in Athani taluk, are being reconstructed and will be handed over to the DPI by March.

Civil division head of PES University Dr S V Venkatesh told DH that Rs 50 lakh had been spent for each school.
