Don't use my name in politics: Puneeth Rajkumar

Last Updated 01 May 2019, 12:10 IST

Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar on Wednesday said that he will not support any politician or be part of any political party.

The actor's reaction came two days after his name was speculated to be in the list of Sandalwood actors slated to campaign for Sumalatha Ambareesh, an independent candidate contesting from Mandya.

In a letter, Puneeth stated, "Its a well-known fact that I am not interested in politics. I wish to be identified as an actor and not as a politician."

Producer Rockline Venkatesh had mentioned Puneeth's name when he was asked about actors other than Darshan and Yash willing to campaign for Sumalatha.

Puneeth further said, "Both Ambareesh's and Deve Gowda's families are our well-wishers. I pray to god to give both of them more strength to serve the people. I request people not to use my name in election or politics." He also requested people to cast their vote sensibly in the upcoming polls.

"Voting is the constitutional right that every Indian has, which is completely their choice. As an actor, I can only ask them to take part in the election and use the right sensibly, but I don't have any right to influence Kannadigas or my fans to cast their vote to one person or party," he stated.
