Mystery shrouds death of SP security staffer

A district armed reserve (DAR) constable was found dead under mysterious circumstances in front of the official residence of Superintendent of Police C B Ryshyanth here on Saturday.

The body of Manjunath Harijan (28) was found with a gunshot wound on the road in front of SP’s residence at Navanagar. Two live bullets and .303 service rifle were found near his body.

Manjunath, a native of Mittalkod in Kushtagi taluk of Koppal district, had joined the force in 2012. After a five-year stint in Davangere, he was transferred to Bagalkot and was deployed for the security of SP residence. SP Ryshyanth told reporters, “I will initiate an enquiry to ascertain the truth.” The constable’s mother Hanumavva has lodged a complaint at the Navanagar police station.
