Mysuru Winter Festival from Dec 22

Tourists visiting the ‘City of Palaces’ during Christmas holidays are ensured a lot of entertainment with the district administration, Mysuru Palace Board and the Department of Tourism organising a host of events as part of Winter Festival from December 22.

A flower show on the Mysuru Palace premises will be the major attraction during the festival. It will be inaugurated by District in-charge Minister G T Devegowda, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar said.

A 17 foot-tall flower replica of Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, flower replicas of Lalith Mahal Palace, peacocks, Dasara elephants, Dasara Jatti Kalaga and vintage cars will be created. A doll show similar to Dasara Doll Show will also be organised on the occasion, the DC said.

Around 20,000 varieties of ornamental flower pots, bonsai and nearly four lakh decorative flowers will be used in the show. In a bid to attract the children, the model of Mr Bean and ‘Keelu Kudure’ will be created.

The Palace Board will illuminate the Mysuru Palace between 7 pm and 9 pm on all the 10 days, he added.

In addition to the flower show, cultural events will also be organised at Mysuru Palace on December 28, 29 and 30, between 7 pm and 9 pm.

Playback singers Ajay Warrier, Vijay Prakash and musician Pravin Godkhindi will perform, he said.

As paragliding received an overwhelming response during Dasara, the district administration has planned paragliding during the Winter festival.

The event will start from December 22. Similarly, a cake festival is scheduled to be held from December 26 to 29 at Jayamma Govindegowda Convention Hall at
Kuvempunagar.

Kala Utsav, focusing on arts and Hasiru Santhe, organic food and vegetable mela, are being planned on Krishnaraja Boulevard on December 30 between 8 am and 5 pm.

There will be vehicular movement on the street for the day and artistes will perform and an expo-cum-sale of organic products has also been arranged.

In order to create awareness about birds and to promote eco-tourism, Mysuru Bird Festival is being planned.

The participants will be taken to places like Kukkarahalli lake and other places. The event will include field visit as well as technical sessions, the deputy commissioner said.

To welcome New Year 2019, a display of fireworks has been arranged at Mysuru Palace on the midnight of December 31. The Police Band will perform from 11 pm to 12 midnight.
