<p>“Extremely happy and proud,” is how the parents of World champion Viswanathan Anand reacted upon hearing about their son winning the world chess crown in Moscow, for the fifth time.<br /><br /></p>.<p>“This is an occasion all of us are proud of; as a father I am extra proud,” said Viswanathan, retired Southern Railway General Manager and father of the chess wizard. <br /><br />“Something superb; these things can’t be explained in words,” said Anand’s mother Susheela when media reached their Besant Nagar home late this evening. The parents were eagerly waiting for Anand’s call from Moscow.<br /><br />Anand’s father said Vishy had seen the best of times, taking on the great champions in the game. He admitted the championship battle in Moscow was tough as a “new crop (of chess players) have come in”. <br /><br />Anand’s father termed Gelfand as one “who has always been a tough opponent. Anand is a very steady player, he doesn’t get perturbed.”<br /><br />PM’s pat<br /><br />Prime Minsiter Manmohan Singh congratulated Anand for his success. He said in a message, “You are a great inspiration to the youth of our country, particularly the sports enthusiasts. You have made the nation proud of you with this monumental achievement.”<br /><br />The Prime Minister wished Anand many more successes in the future.<br />Meanwhile, congress president Sonia Gandhi called Anand’s feat as “stupendous”. <br /><br />“Anand has made India proud. His feat of winning the title consecutively for the fourth time is indeed stupendous,” Gandhi said in her message.</p>
