<p>Students living in several villages around Nayakarahalli do not mind the distance to come and study at the Government High School here. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Parents take a great interest in sending their children to this school, because this school has good teachers and an excellent environment. <br /><br />Despite shortage of classrooms, during the last two years it has secured 100 per cent pass in SSLC examination, becoming the only school in the district to achieve this distinction.<br /><br />Attendance<br /><br />Students from the surrounding villages of Tondal, Chilapanahalli, Benangur, Itharasanahalli and several other villages come here to study. At present there are 55 students in the 8th standard, 43 in 9th standard and 42 in the 10th standard. <br /><br />There are six male teachers and four female teachers. The school has seen 25 summers. It has only four rooms which are usable. When it was a composite school there were five additional rooms which are in a dilapidated condition on the verge of collapse and therefore unusable.<br /><br />Of the four rooms which were built a few years ago, two are used as classrooms, one as computer room and one as room for the headmaster and staff. There is no place to keep the library books.<br /><br />Only one of the dilapidated rooms is used as a classroom and also doubles as a laboratory. Even this room leaks. Memoranda have been submitted seeking classrooms since the last 8 to 10 years, but nothing has happened.<br /><br /> The Headmaster and SDMC have made an appeal a year ago to the Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer to provide a four-roomed building.<br /><br />Standing up<br /><br />Despite all these shortcomings, the teachers act in all earnestness giving attention to individual students. Group activities are conducted and particular attention is paid to students who are weak in their studies.<br /><br />Special classes, monthly meeting of parents and the support of the villagers has led to an environment conducive to academics, says headmaster N Gopalakrishna.<br /><br />There are hundreds of trees and plants in the school premises. Over a hundred honge saplings which were planted in 2006, have now grown into trees and provide shade. <br /><br />Silver oak, teak, tamarind, neem, black berries trees add to the greenery of the campus. Despite adversity, the school shines with greenery.<br /></p>
