Covid-19: Ladakh records more recoveries, active cases dip

Ladakh has recorded over 97 percent of recoveries out of the total 19,871 Covid-19 cases with 38 people discharged in the union territory during the past 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday.

As many as 19,309 people have been cured till now, they said, adding while 15,988 out of 16,397 Covid patients were dicharged in Leh district, 3,321 out of 3,474 patients were discharged in Kargil.

Gujarat HC notice to IAF on plea of its employee unwilling to take Covid-19 vaccine

The Gujarat High Court has issued a notice to the Indian Air Force on a petition filed by one of its personnel posted in Jamnagar, challenging the show cause notice issued to him for termination of service after he expressed his unwillingness to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

In an order passed on Tuesday, a division bench of Justices A J Desai and A P Thaker issued the notice to the IAF and central government and also directed the IAF not to take any coercive action against the petitioner till July 1.

Maharashtra Covid-19 task force member Dr Shashank Joshi on Wednesday said there is no sufficient data available to be alarmed about the 'Delta Plus' variant of coronavirus. He also said people need to adhere to Covid-19 prevention guidelines and wear masks, avoid crowds and get vaccinated.

Notably, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Monday said 21 cases of the Delta Plus variant, considered highly infectious, have been found in the state so far, including nine in Ratnagiri, seven in Jalgaon, two in Mumbai, and one case each in Palghar, Thane and Sindhudurg districts.

IndiGo offers discount for vaccinated passengers

IndiGo will give 10 per cent discount from Wednesday onwards to all passengers who have taken at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, a statement said.

The discount would be given on base fare and only "limited inventory" is available under this offer, the airline's statement noted.

"The offer is only available to vaccinated passengers aged 18 years and above, who are located in India at the time of booking and have already received a (at least one dose of) Covid-19 vaccine in the country," it said.

China's Covid-hit Shenzhen suspends direct flights to Beijing

Brazil probes Health Ministry deal to buy Covaxin vaccine

Brazil's federal prosecutor's office is investigating possible irregularities in a Health Ministry contract to purchase 20 million doses of the Covaxin vaccine manufactured by Indian laboratory Bharat Biotech.

Delta variant 'greatest threat' to US' Covid-19 efforts, says Dr Fauci

The highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus is the "greatest threat" to America’s attempt to eradicate the Covid-19 pandemic, White House Chief Medical Advisor Dr Anthony Fauci has warned.

Speaking at a White House briefing on Covid-19 on Tuesday, Fauci said the variant, which was first identified in India, now makes up more than 20 per cent of all new cases in the US, a significant increase from nearly 10 per cent two weeks ago.

"Similar to the situation in the UK, the Delta variant is currently the greatest threat in the US to our attempt to eliminate Covid-19,” Fauci told reporters during a virtual news conference here.

China reports 24 new Covid-19 cases vs 25 a day earlier

China on Wednesday reported 24 new coronavirus cases in the mainland for June 22, compared with 25 cases a day earlier, the health authority said.

All of the new infections were imported cases, the National Health Commission said in a statement. There were no new deaths.

China also reported 21 new asymptomatic patients, compared with 27 a day earlier.

As of June 22, mainland China had a total of 91,653 confirmed coronavirus cases, it said.

New Zealand raises Covid-19 alert level in capital

New Zealand raised the Covid-19 alert level in capital city Wellington on Wednesday, after an Australian tourist tested positive for Covid-19 after visiting the city over the weekend.

Wellington moved to Alert Level 2 from 6pm local time and will extend through to Sunday.

The measure meant social distancing rules will be in place across the city, but offices, schools and businesses can remain open. - Reuters.
