<p>Delhi Transport Corporation would soon regularise the service of workers appointed on a contractual basis under the “compassionate grounds” category. <br /><br />The corporation has received a green signal from the Delhi government after a representation of DTC Employees Congress met chief minister Shiela Dikshit on Wednesday.</p>.<p>“The chief minister agreed to the demands and asked the concerned officials to take measures to regularise such employees. A provision of the five per cent job quota for dependents of the deceased employees already exists in the corporation,” said Ramesh Chanda Vats, president of the DTC Employees Congress. </p>.<p><br />Vats represented the employees union in the meeting chaired by Sheila Dikshit, which was also attended by other Delhi government officials.<br /><br />Moreover, the government has constituted a committee to look into issues raised by the employees and submit its report along with recommendations. <br /><br />The committe will have principal secretary (finance) transport commissioner, CMD of DTC, labour commissioner and representatives of employees as its members. <br /><br />Officials said a formal notification of the committee will be issued, after which the time period for submitting the report will be fixed. <br /><br />Major demands<br /><br />Some of the major demands the committe will look into include extension of welfare schemes such as medical facilities, a uniform scheme of pension, regularisation of other contractual workers like conductors and drivers, and payment of travelling allowance to employees. <br /><br />“Regularisation of drivers and conductors who are working on contractual basis would help the corporation in several ways,” said Vats.<br /><br />“The employees would be more disciplined and sincere with their job, and problem of absenteeism would decrease. Such improvements are bound to improve the operation of DTC buses, which would in turn increase the earning of the corporation,” added Vats. <br /></p>
