Geetha Shivrajkumar filed her nomination papers as a JD(S) candidate from the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency on Monday.

She was accompanied by her husband and actor Shivrajkumar, MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan, District JD(S) unit president M Srikanth and advocate Siddalingaiah.

Sorab MLA Madhu Bangarappa, Bhadravathi MLA M J Appaji, Shimoga Rural MLA Sharada Pooryanaik, JD(S) candidate for Davangere Mahima Patel  and thousands of supporters were present outside the deputy commissioner’s office.

Earlier in the day, Geetha, Shivrajkumar and Madhu Bangarappa visited the Sacred Heart Church, the Syed Hazrat Salim dargah, Kote Marikamba, Kote Anjaneya and Vinayaka temples and sought the blessings of the Almighty.

Later, they headed to the deputy commissioner’s office in a procession from Ramanna Sresty Park passing through Gandhi Bazaar, Shivappa Nayaka Circle, Ameer Ahmed Circle, Nehru Road, Gopi Circle and
 Mahaveera Circle.

Speaking to mediapersons after filing her nomination, Geetha said that she was facing the polls with the sole intention of fulfilling her father’s dreams. She said she was aware of the problems of the district and that she would address the issues of bagair hukum cultivators and areca growers, if elected.

“I will start campaigning on March 25 from Shimoga Rural constituency. I need an opportunity to execute my plans.” Shivrajkumar said he was confident that people of the district would back his wife in the Lok Sabha polls.

“She has the support of my family members. I also appeal to the voters to give her an opportunity to serve them better.”
