<p> The BJP has been going all out to woo Poorvanchali voters ahead of the Assembly polls. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel on Monday wrote to Leiutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, requesting him to ensure adequate arrangements at Yamuna ghats for Chhat festival — two-day celebrations by Poorvanchalis — in order to avoid a tragedy similar to the one that happened on Ganesh Chaturthi in September. Over a dozen devotees had drowned on the banks of the Yamuna then.<br /><br />In the letter to the LG, Goel expressed concern that the Delhi government seems to be not making sufficient arrangements for the festival, which sees congregation of lakhs of people on the riverbank. <br /><br />“Delhi recently saw a tragic episode during Ganesh Chaturthi when many lives were lost in Yamuna due to absence of proper safety measures. The government must ensure that a tragedy like that is not repeated as lakhs of devotees throng the Yamuna ghats during the festival,” said Goel. <br /><br />He said BJP will deploy a large number of party workers as volunteers at all the Chhat Puja ghats along the Yamuna, canals and other water bodies in all the districts of the capital.<br /><br />The BJP had earlier announced to declare Chhat Puja as a public holiday when it comes to power in Delhi.</p>
