<p>Delhi Cabinet on Thursday gave its nod to construct Indira Gandhi Hospital at Dwarka and approved extension of Delhi government employee health scheme (DGEHS) facilities for government hospitals senior resident doctors. <br /><br />The cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Sheila Dikshit to the decision on Thursday. <br />The chief minister said it has been decided to construct Indira Gandhi Hospital at Dwarka, Sector-9 to provide comprehensive healthcare to the residents of west Delhi including Dwarka and neighbouring localities and villages.<br /><br />“The new hospital, besides helping lakhs of people living in its vicinity will also act as a referral institution for patients referred from health centres, dispensaries, small hospitals in the city,” said Dikshit.</p>.<p>The hospital will provide round-the-clock emergency services, maternity services, surgical facilities, OPD, general ward block, air-conditioned special ward block, full super specialty services and teaching facilities. The in-take teaching section will be 150 admissions per annum as per Medical Council India norms. To expedite its completion, the construction will be taken up on turnkey basis and is likely to be commissioned in three years.</p>.<p>She said the hospital will come up over an area of 15 acre and will have built-up area of 1,28,119 square metre with ground floor plus nine floors and two basements.</p>.<p>“Health department will keep a close watch on the construction and will monitor its progress regularly to ensure its completion at the earliest as the area is not yet covered by any other government hospital,” the chief minister said. <br /><br />Dikshit said the cabinet has decided to extend the DGEHS facilities to senior resident doctors in city government hospitals. </p>
