<p>The principal of Kirori Mal College, Bhim Sen Singh, has sent a defamation notice to Delhi University’s dean of students’ welfare asking for a written apology over remarks made on delay in admissions for students applying from out-of-Delhi boards.<br /><br /></p>.<p>“DU through its letter alleged that the principal did not honour the letter of the deputy registrar (academic) and made a deliberate attempt to harass students, parents and malign the image of the University by seeking clarification you deem unnecessary,” stated the notice sent to the DSW. <br /><br />It further stated: “You have alleged that the behaviour of my client was irresponsible and it resulted in students gathering outside your office and created havoc and mess, which resulted in a rampage.”<br /><br />On the first two days — June 26 and 27 — after the first cut-off list came out, students seeking admissions from Haryana, Manipur and similar boards were not admitted in KMC as the principal sought a clarification from the University regarding provisional admissions on the basis of mark sheets uploaded on websites.<br />Notification sent<br /><br />On June 25, a notification was sent to all colleges regarding provisional admissions that stated: “For other boards, results of which are not available with the office of the DSW, their results may be verified by colleges from the respective boards after granting provisional admissions to the candidates concerned.”<br /><br />Singh had asked for clarifications, stating that the notification is ambiguous in nature as “it is clearly in contravention of the University guidelines that stipulate class 12 mark sheet is required at the time of admission.”<br /><br />He added that sometimes when a contradiction like this arises, the college sticks to what the vice chancellor has put as admission rules. <br /><br />“However, keeping in mind the harassment of students in such a scenario, I decided to seek clarification from the University,” said Singh.<br /><br />Taking objection to the tone and language of the last letter that was sent by the DSW on the matter, Singh has asked for an apology within three days.<br /><br />“It is unfortunate that you have not honoured the letter of the deputy registrar (academic). Your action has resulted in unnecessary suffering by aspiring students, losing two precious admission days of the first cut-off list,” the letter from the DSW’s office had said.</p>
