Led by Raitha Sena Karnataka which is leading the Mahadayi agitation at Nargund in Gadag district, hundreds of farmers in the region would visit Delhi on April 27, to urge the President of India to take steps to resolve inter-state dispute over Mahadayi water sharing, for drinking water purpose, or to give permission for their euthanasia.

"The demand for Mahadayi water is not fulfilled even after a continuous agitation for nearly three years. If the President, Union Government and State Government fail to respond to our demand, we are planning to hold a fast-unto-death in Delhi in coming days," said Raitha Sena Karnataka president Veeresh Sobaradmath.

'Delhi Chalo' would begin from Moorusaviramutt in Hubballi on April 25 at 2:00 pm. More than 400 farmers themselves would bear the expenditure, including the train fare of Rs 255. In Delhi, protest would be staged on Parliament Road, and Delhi police have assured to make efforts to arrange meeting with the President and other authorities, he said.

Neutral in polls

"As we have promised farmers that we would not enter politics till Mahadayi water is supplied to the region, the Sena would be neutral in Assembly elections. It will neither support any candidate nor oppose any," Sobaradmath noted.

A decision about giving a call to cast NOTA or boycott the elections would be taken in the first week of May, after returning from Delhi, he added.
