Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Sangam Vihar Dinesh Mohaniya conducted a raid on illegal water bottling plant late on Tuesday. The area is already reeling under severe water crisis and Mohaniya accused police for not checking water theft properly.

On Tuesday, Mohaniya received a complaint by some of the residents of his area about an illegal water bottling plant in Sangam Vihar which is drawing water from Delhi Jal Board’s tube-well.

“Following the complaints, I went to the spot and saw some people stealing water from DJB’s tube-well to fill the 20-litre bottles. I immediately contacted police and got the premises sealed,” Mohaniya told Deccan Herald.

The DJB officials admitted that the water bottling plant was running illegally and they have sealed the premises.

“The premises have been sealed and we have initiated further investigation in this matter,” said a DJB official of the area.

He accused the DJB and police for not checking water theft in the area which is leading to severe water crisis.

“There is no piped water supply in Sangam Vihar. The water mafias are active and they occupy many tube-wells to filter the water and pack them in 20-litre bottles to sell it. The action of police is very dissatisfactory,” he added.

He said after his rigorous efforts, the situation has ‘slightly’ changed in the area.
The entire Sangam Vihar Assembly segment has a majority of unauthorised colonies where DJB has failed to supply piped water.
