An anonymous call on Sunday afternoon which reported that a bomb was planted in the Supreme Court premises led to anxious moments with police, a bomb disposal team and a dog squad rushing to the spot only to find out that it was a hoax call.

A senior police official said they received a call at the police control room at 3 pm on Sunday reporting that a mentally unstable man had placed a bomb at the court’s premises.

He told them not to ignore the call, but to take it seriously as the bomb would go off any moment. A bomb disposal team and a dog squad was rushed to the spot, but nothing was found. Since it was a Sunday not many people were present at the apex court.

Police later began technical surveillance on cellphone numbers to locate the number through which the call was made. “The mobile phone, call detail records, customer agreement form and international mobile equipment identity are being scrutinised,” the official added.

A case under sections 182 (false information) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code, and under section 66A of the Information Technology Act has been registered at Tilak Marg police
station.
